Cleft lip and palate is the most common major facial birth defect affecting approximately 1 in 750 live births in the USA. Treatment can involve several operations and non-surgical treatments from the first year of life until your child has reached near full growth in the teen years.

Although the plastic surgeon performs most of the major operations there are several other specialties involved in the care of children with cleft lip and palate. The best care for your child takes place in the setting of a multi-specialty team so that your child's needs can be prioritized and a coordinated plan of treatment can be developed.

Dr. Motoki has been a member of the regional Cleft Palate Craniofacial Team at Primary Children's Medical Center since 1989. Providing care for these children has been a very gratifying part of his practice!
