How long will it take to recover from cosmetic surgery?

Recovery from cosmetic surgery depends on the type of surgery and on the individual patient. There are many aspects of recovery such as resolution of bruising and swelling, duration of discomfort or pain, length of time for incisions to heal, and when one can return to normal activities or work.

Most bruising and swelling resolves in two weeks. Most patients do not require prescription pain medication for more than one to two weeks, depending upon the type of procedure performed. Most facial incisions heal within a week. Most breast and tummy incisions heal by two to three weeks. There are exceptions to these general time frames.

When you can return to your normal activities and work depends on the nature of your normal activities and work, and could vary from one week for light acitivity and work requirements to several weeks if strenuous activity or work is involved.

Just as all cosmetic surgeries are not the same, the recovery is unique to the procedure and the patient. A better estimate of your recovery can be provided at your consultation.

Please inform us of any particular time constraints so that we can take this into consideration when planning your cosmetic surgery.

It is very important to follow your pre and post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth and uncomplicated recovery.
